Aerial reconnaissance over hostile territory – Buck and his team have a lot on their plate!

During a top secret electronic intelligence-gathering mission, an American F-22 stealth fighter is shot down by an unknown enemy. Basran, the target nation, isn’t supposed to have weapon systems able to detect – let alone, hit – the pride and joy of the USAF. So, who did? And how? Buck and his team are soon tasked with a delicate, top-secret job: complete the downed plane’s original reconnaissance mission, and find out what happened to it – all that while flying Russian planes!

'Buck Danny will remain a pillar of the Franco-Belgian comic world and THE reference series on cartoon aviation'. Christophe Chanel, [MyETVmedia]

Key Points:
  • Mixing historical references with fiction, Buck Danny is one of the most important classic Franco-Belgian comic strips
  • The central characters are based on popular heroes of the Second World War, lending the comics historical authenticity
  • The artwork depicts aircraft realistically and includes technological developments
  • The series features contemporary history, including the wars in Bosnia and Afghanistan

A former pilot in the French Navy, Frédéric Zumbiehl has since turned to writing. He wrote the scripts of several military adventure series, always insisting on hyper-realism, such as Team Rafale or Unité Félin. He was picked to replace Francis Bergèse at the helm of Buck Danny. Francis Winis, himself a civilian pilot, holds degrees in architecture and space architecture. He helped design International Space Station modules, and has worked for the European Space Agency, Aérospatiale and Airbus – all the while studying BD.
