Clifton is put in charge of training a young MI5 prodigy.
Holidaying in the country, Clifton receives the unexpected – and unwelcome – visit of a MI5 bigwig. He finds himself reinstated against his will, and tasked with finalising the training of a promising new recruit of the Intelligence Service: Sir Jason. The young man is sharp, well educated, knows both techniques and theory like the back of his hand... The problem, as Clifton soon discovers, is that when the time for action comes, he is inevitably paralysed by fear!
- Clifton and his housekeeper form a very British pair – as seen through French and Belgian eyes!
- Classic detective stories with lots of humour
- Perfect for the school and library markets
Clifton's Debrett's Entry: 'Ex-agent of the Secret Service and colonel to Her Most Gracious Majesty, Sir Harold Wilberforce Clifton has become an amateur detective. Scotland Yard consider this excellent old hand as insightful as the illustrious Sherlock Holmes! Without ever losing an ounce of his 'British' touch, he resolves complex enigmas for the police and thwarts the plans of unscrupulous crooks. At the wheel of his famous MG convertible, Clifton punctuates his cases with the indispensable 'tea-time', cheeky remarks, his devoted housekeeper Mrs. Partridge, and the attention demanded by his cats. Rich in twists and turns, the adventures of Clifton are presented by some of the biggest names in humorous comics'.
'...a tongue-in-cheek James Bond story for children, with Rodrigue's detailed artwork and de Groot's plotting and cheeky digs at Britons and the British way of life making the book readily enjoyable for adult readers as well' [Jeremy Briggs on Clifton #4: Black Moon in 'Down The Tubes']
Bob de Groot is a Belgian writer who penned three Lucky Luke titles. In 1972 he took over the very successful Clifton series, originally created by Raymond Macherot. Turk also collaborated with de Groot on the Robin Dubois series, a hugely successful parody of Robin Hood. The pair also created Léonard de Génie, a series based on Leonardo da Vinci.
