She was a girl from a well-to-do background - who happened to fall in love with her best friend at University. He also happened to be the heir to the throne! And as he gave her the attention of the world's media, she gave him the one thing he never expected a normal life.
The reputation of comic books has been growing for the last twenty years, no longer the preserve of the childish joke or the American superhero, everything from political melodrama to cookbooks have found expression in comic books.
And now Markosia Enterprises have found a way to tell this story in a very different way, a dramatic biography with two separate stories told from either end of the comic, coming together in the middle, a fictional look at the wedding day itself, with a kiss. How could it end any other way?
The front half of the book, drawn by Welsh artist Mike Collins, tells Kate's story in the manner of a 1970s' girls comic book, with some very modern touches. Each event is given added depth and resonance through the use of a fictional diary. The back half follows William from the rugby pitches of Eton through to army officer training at Sandhurst, and onto his army and RAF exploits. Narrated through newspaper headlines and mission briefings, it is a style more familiar to army and sports comics for boys.
From the English writer of Flying Friar, Rich Johnston, the Scottish artist of Dan Dare, Gary Erskine and the Welsh artist on Doctor Who, Mike Collins.
A Special Edition to commemorate the Royal engagement and wedding.
